The fish that gather around the wrecks attract larger predators, such as Sandtiger Sharks (Carcharias taurus). In fact, North Carolina offers some of the best Sandtiger viewing in the world. Fearsome-looking, but docile in nature, Sandtiger Sharks slowly circle the wrecks and ignore divers for the most part. Averaging 6-9 feet in length, the animals' seemingly slow, almost lumbering movements disguise the effortlessness with which they cruise through the Atlantic waters. In fact, a diver swimming alongside a sandtiger will find it impossible to keep up for more than a few feet.
